I am especially happy to be welcoming in a new year this time around – 2014 created some wonderful memories, but I faced some unexpected difficulty this fall and I am so ready for a fresh start. The incoming New Year has also inspired me to list some baller resolutions!
Visit every major museum in Chicago. The Museum of Art (dad’s favorite), the Field Museum, the Shedd Aquarium (to visit Luna!), the Museum of Science and Industry, etc.
Attend a ballet. While watching the Kennedy Center Honors, one of this year’s honorees was ballerina Patricia McBride. Her tribute included some incredible performances of her past roles. I have always loved dance (although I am completely uncoordinated myself), so I want to experience more live ballet.
Go to more concerts and see the artists I love in person. I’ve already gotten a start on this – I’m seeing Andy Grammer in March!
Travel! Thus far on my list: San Francisco, Chile, Florida … Any more suggestions?
Join a gym and workout regularly. I have been fairly good about this, depending on the weather. I find I handle stress from work and life so much better when I am in shape – no matter what the workout (my preferred is running or mat Pilates), I love the mental clarity I leave with. Long runs are my favorite method of working through a personal problem; even if I don’t have a solution by the time I’m done, I usually find some insights that were previously unapparent. But one can only run outside for so long in Chicago winter, so the next step is to bite the bullet and join a nearby gym.
That’s all I have at the moment, but I’m sure as the year progresses, I will add more to this list. What are your resolutions for the new year?
